Lost in her thoughts about Shin, she doesn’t notice the squid catching fire. She blows out the flame when she notices, and starts to panic when she realised what she had done. On the other hand, Shin smiles when he sees the smoke emitting from his hands. He’s glad that she has finally summon him.
Today, we will learn how to make Boglegel aka. Mr Buckwheat from the popular Korean drama – Goblin. I modelled my crochet version against the actual plush, so this pattern has little details such as the removable hoodie and cute thumbs.
Disclaimer: I crocheted him in the wee hours of the morning so I can’t say for sure if there are zero mistakes in the pattern. If in doubt, just leave me a comment and I will try to help.
WHAT YOU NEED:
- 4mm crochet hook
- Passion knit Slumberland Frances Yarn in light brown and cream
- 12-ply yarn in black and light pink
- 12mm safety eyes
- Glass beads/stones (for a weighted feel)
- Polyester stuffing
- Scissors and yarn needle

INSTRUCTIONS:
The head and body is worked together in a continuous piece. We will start with the body first.
Body
Ch 12
Sc across from 2nd ch
Sc across the other side of the chain
Rnd 1: sc around
Rnd 2: (inc, sc) around, sc
Rnd 3: sc around
Rnd 4: inc, (inc, 2sc)*5 times, inc, (inc, 2sc)*4times, 2sc
Rnd 5: sc around
Rnd 6: 22sc, dec, sc in remaining st
Rnd 7: 3sc, dec, 18sc, dec, sc in remaining st
Rnd 8: 2sc, dec, sc in remaining st
Rnd 9-12: sc around
Rnd 13: (2sc, dec) around, 2sc
Rnd 14: sc around [29]
Rnd 15 – in flo: 10dc, hdc, sc, hdc, 16dc [Note: this is the collar. Ensure the sc is positioned in the centre of the body. Otherwise, adjust accordingly by adding/removing the dc.]
FO, and weave in ends.

Rnd 1: sc around in blo of Rnd 14, sl st to first sc
Rnd 2: sc around
Rnd 3: (sc, inc) around, inc
Rnd 4: sc around
Rnd 5: (2sc, inc) around, inc
Rnd 6-12: sc around
Rnd 13: 5sc, inc, 29sc, inc, 20sc [Note: ensure the inc are at the sides the head so that the head curves nicely. Otherwise, adjust accordingly by adding/removing the sc.]
Rnd 14: sc around
Rnd 15: (3sc, dec) around, 3sc
Rnd 16: sc around
Rnd 17: (2sc, dec) around [Note: last dec crosses over to the next round]
Rnd 18: sc around
Rnd 19: (sc, dec) around [Note: last dec crosses over to the next round]
Rnd 20: sc around
Rnd 21: dec around, and stuff [Note: last dec crosses over to the next round; add the beads in the body piece for a weighted feel; sew the cheeks first; insert safety eyes 7st apart; use the safety eyes to overlap part of the cheeks]
Rnd 22: dec*5times, and stuff [Note: this is an incomplete rnd]
FO, close gap, and leave a long tail for sewing.
Arms (make two)

Assembly
Sew all crochet parts together. Weave in all ends.
For the hair, bend the piece into a curl shape. Use the starting tail to sew the two sides together to form the curl ‘stem’. Use the ending tail to sew the entire piece onto the head.
Sew the hood onto the back half of the collar.
Embroider the mouth using black yarn.

Hi Anna, unfortunately I didn’t snap any progress photos as it was quite dark when I was working on him. As for the stitch counts, you can do the checks at certain rows where the pattern indicates the no. of sc required.

i dont understand how to start the body like what do you mean by
Sc across from 2nd ch and Sc across the other side of the chain shouldn’t i just start with a magic ring with 12sc ?

Hello there! Apologies for the late reply. Ch 12, sc frm 2nd st onwards and on the other side of the chain. Work in rounds thereafter. I modelled this against the actual plush hence for close resemblance, suggest to work it this way instead of magic ring from the beginning as the leg area is “rectangle-ish”.

Hi! First I love your creation! It’s so cute! ❤ I do have a question on the head. If it's a continuation from the body, R1 on the body should start with 29 stitches? If that's correct, then R2 is 29 stitches, R3 is a (sc, inc) around, inc, and I came up with a count of 44 stitches. But when I figure out the count for R5, the instructions only cover up to a count of 43 stitches. So I ended up just decreasing the last one to make it match which brought me to a new total of 58 stitches. R6-12 are 58 stitches. Then when I come to round 13, 5sc, inc, 29sc, inc, 20 sc, the count comes to a total of 58 stitches. that leaves me with 2 extra stitches. Did I do something wrong? Sorry, this is a bit confusing. Thank you for your help! 🙂

Hi, thanks for the compliments. I don’t speak Spanish so it’s not possible for me to translate the pattern in that language. You can try google translating it. I did that too for patterns which were written in foreign languages. As for video tutorials, I am not keen to explore it currently as it is time consuming and I am only doing this in my pastime.

Hi when you say increase, that’s two sc in one stitch right? I cant seem to understand round 4 of the body inc (inc 2sc) 5 times inc (inc 2sc) 4 times 2sc..i only have enough stitches to make the first inc (inc 2sc) 5 times and nowhere to put the rest of it..appreciate your assistance

Hi Ella, yes. Inc = 2sc in 1 stitch.
(Inc, 2sc)* 5 times = (2sc in 1 stitch, 1sc in the next stitch, 1sc in the next stitch) –> repeat this 5 times
Did you sc across your other side of the chain? Could be why you didn’t have enough stitches.
